Gratitude

Katie is now two months into her diagnosis and 6 weeks into her chemotherapy regimen. At her last Oncologist appointment, we got good news, her tumor is shrinking! (!!!) She seems to be responding well to the chemotherapy regimen. There is still a long road ahead, but we are so grateful to hear this positive news.

Katie is still getting chemotherapy weekly on Thursdays. She’ll have a slightly different schedule these next two weeks due to Thanksgiving and her birthday! For those who don’t know, Katie’s 31st birthday is on December 3rd. Please send all the good vibes, per usual (THANK YOU!) and birthday wishes!

On the hair front, Katie added a couple creative steps to the plan, rocking a pretty sweet faux-hawk and then a true gelled mohawk last week. (What is the difference, you may ask? Check out the photo gallery for some pics!) She of course took the opportunity to bring some rocker vibes to her chemo session. Her nurses loved the getup, per usual. Katie is now in the final phase of her hair plan: she and Nate shaved her head completely a few days ago. Unsurprisingly, Katie still looks amazing! Her head is colder now, but luckily Nate can show her the ropes for how to keep warm. ;)

Beyond treatment and hair updates, it feels appropriate to provide a ‘wellness’ update. Katie really has committed herself to her healing journey. She has started seeing a nutritionist and athletic trainer regularly, who specialize in working with Oncology patients. She is cooking clean and vegan, and exercising more than me if I’m honest! She is going to her acupuncturist weekly to help minimize her treatment side effects. She is meditating. She is attending cancer-focused webinars, support groups, and conferences to connect with others and learn. She has made her journey to wellness her full-time job. It’s been hard to feel grateful the last couple of months, but I am so grateful that Katie is a boss. She continues to awe and amaze me every day with her intention, energy, and cheer.

And finally - WOW, you all have really showed up for Katie and Nate over the last few weeks. A huge THANK YOU and giant air hug to everyone that has called, texted, sent sweet notes, silly photos, thoughtful care packages, generous gifts and donations - y’all are seriously amazing. We are so grateful to you all, Katie & Nate’s community, for supporting them through this difficult time! <3<3<3

Lots of love and hope everyone has a safe and healthy Thanksgiving.

Mary
